Expect rain in Alaska
David | October 28, 2013 | Holland America Line | Oosterdam
MS Oosterdam is very stylish ship with fine decorations and perfectly maintained. The basic balcony cabin was spacious enough for 2 and the cabin stewards kept it clean and tidy. On board entertainment was well up to expectations and the dining room comfortable.
In Alaska there is plenty to see even on sea days as the ship makes progress up the Inside Passage. Good pair of binoculars made the views and sights even better. Whales were ever present and we even saw a Bear ashore.
Shore excursion were good and worthwhile but a little expensive even with small discount from Holland America.
On board drinks were reasonably priced and sometimes had readily acceptable two for one offers. The encounter with the Marjorie Glacier in Glacier Bay was incredible despite the constant rain. Embarkation and dis-embarkation in Vancouver was faultless even if the boarding photograph was instantly forgettable. We had gone on this cruise ready for cold and foul weather and it paid off, as we saw and did what we wanted to despite the conditions.
