Just returned from a weeks cruise on the MSC Opera to Holland and Norway. Whilst we were impressed with the cleanliness and condition of the ship, the courteous way they helped us on and off with mum’s wheelchair and the standard of the cabins we were a little disappointed in the overall service. If you wanted a drink from the bar the waiting time was anything from five to forty minutes. Our particular waiter at dinner was not too good, orders were not always correct, his communication skills left a lot to be desired and he managed to get yellow mustard all over my new white shirt, offering little apology just a quick spray to try and remove the stain. On the good side our cabin steward was excellent, nothing too much trouble. The cost of drinks, tours etc were comparable with most other cruise companies, but the duty free on board was quite expensive. Evening entertainment was great if you enjoy watching the same team of dancers and singers every night, there did not seem to be much variety at all, disappointing really as there was not that much else to do with your time after dinner. Really glad the cost of the cruise was not vast as would have felt out of pocket, but not very likely to go on MSC again.
