Good cruise, but poor entertainment

We cruised on the Arcadia in July 2012. This was our second cruise having been on the Ventura before in 2009.

As I work in a school we can only cruise in school holidays. We chose a family cruise on Ventura, so thought we would try an adult only cruise this time on Arcadia. It came as a bit of a surprise that the average age on this cruise was 61, the lowest for Arcadia’s current season. There were a lot of elderly people on board, but these are the people who cruise 2 or 3 times a year, so are a priority for P & O.

This may explain the entertainment on board. There were shows in the Palladium & the second venue, the Globe was entirely given over to ballroom dancing, which I think should have been notified in advance.

A very good comedian & a singer appeared twice. In the other bars there were lounge bar duos for background music.

The entertainment staff worked very hard to provide endless quizzes.The nightclub seemed dead most of the time.

Everyone we spoke to at breakfast felt the same about the entertainment & I’m sorry to say quite often we were bored.

The service, cabin & food were excellent, but we would choose a family cruise next time in the hope that there is the same variety of entertainment that we experienced on the Ventura.
