Doug Boynton | August 26, 2013 | P&O Cruises | Arcadia
Our first trip on Arcadia since 2009. After a trouble free embarkation with no waiting we got straight on the ship and our cabin was ready for use.
Cruising with P&O may not be the most luxurious but we like it It’s lie coming home.
Arcadia is our favourite ship in their fleet particularly as they now have Freedom Dining which we prefer. The service we received all over the ship was excellent. Our deuce balcony cabin was very nice with a comfortable bed and nice balcony and bathroom. Our cabin steward was very good he gave us lots f privacy and always prepared the cabin to a high standard
We went to dinner around 730pm every evening and rarely had to wait for a table for two which is our preference for dinner. The menus and food were good without reaching the standards of some other cruise lines, but still very acceptable and pleasant.
A big change we noticed was the price of drinks which have increased considerably from our last P&O cruise and are no longer comparable to pub prices which they used to be
The itinerary was excellent although as we expected you can’t rely on great weather when you visit the Hebrides Iceland Shetland and the Orkneys
The highlight of the cruise was the four days in Iceland which was terrific, but the other stops Belfast Stornoway Lerwick and Kirkwall were all very enjoyable.
As has been the case for some time on P&O some of the entertainment was not great Probably due to budget cuts.
Anyone who is a regular with P&O is probably as bored as we are with the Headliners shows which have not changed for a number of years, and the company on Arcadia was not a very high standard either.
However the guest artistes were excellent (Opera Boys,Elektra, Roy Walker)
The highlights for us was Finbarr Malafronte a really good classical guitarist and Indigo Sky a resident duo who were exceptional.
One of the things we like about P&O is they always have interesting speakers and this cruise was no exception
The recently refurbished Crows Nest at the top of the ship was our favourite bar with great views and service and the ease of getting around the ship is a great feature if Arcadia.
P&O cater to the British market and they continue to do it well
