Aurora Pacific leg 2013
Nuttall | December 23, 2013 | P&O Cruises | Aurora
We joined the Aurora world cruise in San Francisco, end of Jan2013 and disembarked in Sydney, end of Feb 2013.
Thoroughly enjoyable, but major negatives re Norovirus, (we were OK), but you can’t help worrying if you are going to catch it. P & O’s policy should prevent partners leaving the cabin when their partner has contracted the virus. It didn’t, so the containment of the virus was compromised.
Major problem, apparently not for the first time, with a failed propeller bearing, restricting speed, and necessitating missing out of a planned stop at Bora Bora, which we were looking forward to.
Other maintenance problems with the ship such as blocked toilets (did not apply to us), no television/ship location advice ( we were without this facility for 2 days), numerous water leaks in staircases and gangways in public areas.
Also, the cabin we had on ‘A’ deck had flaking paint from the balcony ceiling, deposits and stains on the floor matting. It was unpleasant to sit on the balcony.
Overall impression resulted in a continued state of anxiety regarding captains announcements. Could not recommend this ship, it is dated, poorly maintained, and in need of refurbishment, though many of the traditional cruise fraternity, loyal to Aurora, did not complain.
Absolutely wonderful standards of service throughout, and good quality food.
