Not as it was
Linda Ridd | March 20, 2023 | P&O Cruises | Aurora
I adore the Aurora, she is my favourite ship, I would definitely not travel on any other of the fleet, heard horrid stories from friends who had travelled on the larger ships….I have travelled on Aurora 8 times, my first cruise on her after Covid was on 5 August 2022, horror of horrors, she no longer has the water feature in the atrium, they have taken the waterfall away, the beautiful sculpture which was like Lalique glass has been replaced by a same rough concrete cast painted teal, the water pool at the bottom is now covered in pebbles, the lovely clam shell waterfalls have gone to be replaced by the same colour concrete clams and filled with horrid grasses, it now resembles a dumping ground under the stairs, heartbreaking, this was stunningly beautiful, a hark back to the old liners. There was no lifeboat drill, no one around to take your name. The food was awful, coming to the table tepid, the ice cream half melted, chicken dishes could not be cut, so tough, sent back twice. Cancelled trip to the Faroe Islands, not informed, on the 10 August while in Grundafjordur Iceland on a ship tour I tripped on a stone and fractured two bones in my wrist, smashed one side of my face, had treatment in the hospital on board, cost £900, which I have tried to be reimbursed by my insurance with The Post Office, 3 times I have been in contact, plus the doctor on the ship had spoken to them, they have not sent forms, due to them not wanting to pay. The entertainment was dire, bargain basement acts, the Headliners were dreadful, flat and out of tune, people walking out including myself, the only entertainment good was the classical…..no welcome aboard party, no sail away party, no Captains cocktail party, the atmosphere was subdued and not happy, never saw any of the officers, deck stewards not doing their job, on a rough day at sea the Crystal pool was not emptied and the water was rising at one end about 10 feet out of the pool vertically, the inside deck was swamped with water…near the end of the cruise, I was advised by the doctor to ask the reception desk if they could get help for me to pack, being quite surly answered with a flat No, I informed the doctor and she sent them an email, eventually a steward helped me, I had to find help to get me off the ship, this should have been sorted out and transport to get me home, after about an hour of returning home, I was telephoned by Carnival / P and O stating that the reception desk were worried if I had returned home safely, I was incensed. I felt the whole cruise was a shambles, the most I have paid for a cruise, I am single so I pay their iniquitous surcharge, the cruise apart from the stunning scenery was a complete waste of money, a cruise from hell on steroids, apart from my broken arm, when I think of the beautiful food, the fabulous entertainment, the state of the ship in regards to housekeeping, is an absolute shame, that standards have plundered that much…..when they state in the latest brochures/advertising…..We give you so much…..it should be….We give you so much less. I hate the fact that standards have dropped is partly to be blamed on Carnival and its number crunchers, they have got too greedy with too many ships. I hate to see a beautiful ship like Aurora this way
