Our first time on Aurora
Carole Freemantle | January 6, 2020 | P&O Cruises | Aurora
We have been on nearly all of P&O’s ships but never cruised on Aurora so we took this opportunity of a three night cruise to see what the ship was like. I know Aurora is one of the older ships and is, I think, due a refit either the end of this year or the beginning of next, but we really liked her. She is a very elegant ship, we thought the layout of the ship really works well. We spent some time in The Crows Nest which was very enjoyable, especially with some cocktails! We had a minisuite and it was extremely spacious and we would love to have a longer cruise in the same cabin. This minisuite was much larger than the one we had been in on Arcadia, for example.
We had breakfast and one lunch in Caf?? Bordeaux which was lovely. I understand it is probably being turned into The Glasshouse at the refit. Much as I like the Glasshouse on Azura, I think this is a pity. Caf?? Bordeaux is wonderful for breakfast if you do not want the scrum of the buffet or the formality of the main restaurant.
We were in the Alexandria restaurant for dinner each evening and thought the service was excellent – we had a good wine waiter too. We did go up to the buffet for a late lunch for my husband as he had been on a long trip. It was the usual buffet arrangement. We enjoyed having a pre-dinner drink in Charlies, and I really liked Andersons as a place for a drink after dinner. Three nights is not really long enough to enjoy all that the ship offers but Aurora certainly ranks as one of our favourite P&O ships. Disembarkation was slick – we had an early breakfast in the Medina Restaurant, and then collected our hand luggage from the cabin. Passengers were then told they could leave the ship when they wished – no specific times given and it all seemed to work well. We were driving away from the port by 8.40am. It was a very enjoyable three days and we hope to be back on Aurora before too long.
