Perfect First Cruise
Dawn Alison Ward | September 25, 2014 | P&O Cruises | Aurora
My Mother treated me to my first ever cruise, we boarded the beautiful cruise ship Aurora at Southampton on the 28th April 2013 for our 17 night cruise to the Mediterranean R303. My Mother has had several cruises with various cruise companies and I soon realised why P&O was her favourite cruise company, the Aurora was spotless from stem to stern and looked so majestic, comfort was outstanding both in and out of the cabin, service was implacable the whole cruise as was the fabulous entertainment, cuisine and courtesy, it was obvious that all crew members, whether above or below decks were doing their work exceptionally well to the highest standards. The Aurora is truly a beautiful ship with outstanding features and amazing shops to browse. I purchased several exquisite items for my Mum and myself during the cruise. We departed Southampton the 28th April bound for Vigo. we departed with cloudy skies and calm waters, the Bay of Biscay changed that and was quite rough with large swells and choppy seas, several people succumbed to sea sickness and retired to their cabins, fortunately Mum and I were lucky and remained ok. We docked at Vigo the 30th April the grey skies were still with us and the temperature a mean 60F, we enjoyed our t ime exploring Vigo and took a few photographs, we went back aboard Aurora where we soon set sail for our next port of call Korcula, we enjoyed four wonderful sea days arriving Korcula the 5th May to sunny skies and temperature around 70F, we required a tender to go ashore which didn’t take long and were soon enjoying the delights of Korcula with more photograph taking. We departed Korcula for Venice arriving the 6th May to mixed weather sunshine & showers, at least it was warm rain ha, ha, we found Venice enchanting and made the most of every precious minute with lots more photos and purchase of several gifts for friends & family. Our next port of call was Dubrovnik arriving the 7th May, it is lovely and interest with so much history and again made the most of every minute and purchased more gifts for family and friends. Our next port of call was Corfu arriving the 8th May to clear blue skies and a warm 70+F we spent an enjoyable time looking round places of interest as soaked up the lovely sunshine. We next docked at Messina famous for WW2 landings, nothing was visible mentioning anything about Messina and the second world war, we enjoyed the local sights and took more photos before returning to the Aurora. Our final destination was Alicante arriving 11th May, again we were lucky to enjoy blues skies and lovely warm sunshine as we walked round Alicante historical sights taking many more photographs and purchasing more gifts for family and friends. We departed Alicante for Southampton looking forward to a much too short three days at sea, which were made so very special by the whole crew giving us such wonderful memories I will never forget, my lovely Mum was so very right, its P&O for me from now on, any other would be second best. Thank you so much P&O and the entire crew of the Aurora for a PERFECT cruise.
