Britannia breeze.
K J BYATT | August 22, 2016 | P&O Cruises | Britannia
We took an 8 day cruise with friends on Britannia to see what the ship was like. Had seen and heard so many differing opinions that we wanted to see for ourselves. Each of us have cruised with P&O on quite a few occasions so knew what to expect from a P&O cruise experience.
It started with boarding which was a breeze. Bearing in mind 3000 people joining the staff handled everything with their normal professionalism.
The food quality and choice was as good as we had experienced on other ships. Bearing in mind the size of the ship it never ceases to amaze me as to how the chefs produce such consistently good food. Our waiters were very friendly and looked after us well. The dining areas were all clean and well presented. For such large spaces the decor worked well to make the areas more intimate.
We had inside cabins and they were nicely furnished. Particularly liked having a shower door rather than the good old shower curtain. Cabin steward was excellent. Only down side was that for the latest addition to the fleet you could not see your expenditure on your television.
Public areas were clean and well furnished. There are plenty of spaces to sit down. We were amazed at how spacious the ship was without overcrowding.
This is the only ship in the fleet, to my knowledge, that sells Omega watches in the onboard store. (The three watch experts were knowledgeable and friendly and I do not think this was simply because I bought a watch). Other than this welcome addition the shopping experience was very similar – including gold by the inch!
Overall we enjoyed thoroughly our trip. Our only gripe is something you will have read about before – the lack of stairs in the centre of the ship. This means using the lifts so it becomes a choke point. Bearing in mind the advertising said the ship was built to cater for the British market I feel that someone got it wrong not providing the central stairway. It does not change the enjoyable experience that it Britannia.
