As Senior Cruisers in terms of seniority/cruising experience, this was a disappointing cruise.
The ship has little character/warmth, facilities are often overwhelmed by the crude heavy mob who have little and often no regard for fellow passengers. You will no doubt have heard about the passengers who were removed from the ship for outrageous antics.
P&O seem to be aiming for a different market to what we expected, market stalls in the atrium, outrageous noise on the pool deck, dress for formal nights not adhered to/ignored, vastly overpriced dining alternatives, expensive drinks often poorly prepared/served and vastly overpriced excursions. Not that we have ever had any but where has the free 11.00 “ice cream” gone?
The whole experience was one of “you must spend, spend, spend” to enjoy yourself, often at the expense of enjoying what we thought we had already paid for. Gratuities still a big issue, we appeared to be the only one’s paying any!
There are big issues around upgrading, we talked to a couple who had booked a cabin similar to ours but had been upgraded to a suite, not that we wished for a Butler but would have enjoyed the extra space/facilities since we were doing back to back cruises.
Enough griping – we had good meals/food, fellow passenger company, theatre shows, an excellent cabin steward, good lectures, access to an excellent library, (avoid the expensive Wi-Fi) and our cabin suited us very well. Return flight arrangements also excellent.
We cannot recommend this ship to either friends or relatives and will not be going on it again. Our future with P&O, not sure, even found the forward booking desk unhelpful!!
