Disappointing Christmas and New Year cruise on Britannia. Food was very variable, particularly on formal nights, Christmas dinner was overcooked and New Year’s day the meat was incinerated.
On our table of eight six meals were sent back on both days. Restaurant staff very good and friendly but bar staff generally quite miserable and in short supply in bars and cafes. Very surprised that hand hygiene was not being enforced in Horizon restaurant and it seemed the majority of passengers were not washing hands/using gel before using the buffet. On all other ships I have been on there is always someone greeting at the buffet ensuring that hand hygiene policy is enforced. Tried to eat dinner in the Glass House one evening and after requesting a table we were then ignored with preference being given to people who requested tables after us. General cleanliness standard of the public areas of the ship was poor, rubbish being left in the lifts for three days and public toilets not being very clean. Entertainment, with a couple of exceptions, was very mediocre; the house troop being particularly poor. Overall thought that cruise was poor value for money; whilst drinks prices were OK the drinks package is nothing short of a rip-off. Holiday was saved by the ports we visited and the company we had at dinner.
