First time on a big ship

First time on a big ship and went with an open mind. Embarkation very good at Southampton.

Food acceptable in club dining but could have been hotter in horizon buffet. Many people on this cruise found the main problem with Britannia was the lifts- not enough of them especially midship and no stairwell. Out of 12days to the Canary Isles, we probably spent 2 of them waiting for lifts! When one did turn up it was packed so had to wait for another.

Entertainment was average and the guest speaker on volcanoes and geology managed to put half the audience in the theatre asleep. Weather was very good throughout the cruise. We thought Captian Wesley Dunlop was the best we have ever had, good sense of humour and always had time to talk to passengers.The rest of the crew were all efficient, polite and helpful without being overbearing.

The ship was clean and well presented and sailed really smoothly. The big problem, particularly for older or infirm passengers was obviously the lifts and also the distances. Club dining in the oriental restaurant( lower aft) and wishing to go to the crows nest (upper forward) needed a taxi.

Overall a fairly enjoyable cruise but a ship of this size just is not for me. Many people I spoke to felt the same but others really liked it, each to their own of course, give it a go!.
