P&O standards dropped
Cheryl Medd | February 6, 2023 | P&O Cruises | Britannia
Hi, we just returned from a Caribbean cruise on Britannia, this was our 8th Caribbean cruise with P&O and I have to say the standards have sadly dropped significantly. Some I can see and understand i.e. covid, but others are just simply not what we expected at all. I know there may have been a staffing shortage due to sickness, but corners have been cut all over the ship and its just not the same standard anywhere. Food in restaurants was very repetitive, very small portions and hardly any choice i.e. pork of one form or another on nearly every menu, sometimes on more than once. hardly any fish on the menu unless you wanted Salmon, again sometime on twice once smoked and once cooked. Had tomato soup as the choice of soup 3 nights in a row, i asked for melon one night as i didn’t like any of the other choices and was told it wasn’t available. The only time we saw prawn cocktail on the menu was in the Horizon grill, we were passing through and i saw it and thought great, ill have that tonight but it wasn’t on our menu!! Cheese and biscuits and after dinner drinks are also a thing of the past, if you want cheese and biscuits, its now on the desserts menu and there is no choice. Breakfast in the Horizon was a bit of a let down, no longer can you get freshly made omelets to order, and often they ran out of fresh fruit early, not even a banana to get most days. Afternoon teas in Horizon – nearly always the same sandwiches and a poor selection of cakes. Poos side service, you had to look very hard to find a drinks waiter, quicker to go to the bar yourself. Bed linen and towels in rooms, these were changed regularly, but they are old and in need of change, both no longer white but that mucky off which/grey colour. The new My Holiday App is a joke, had to get staff at reception to login for me, only place on ship it would work was in the reception area. Have thought that P&O standards have fallen for a few years now, but this is just too far from what we had previously loved about cruising, no longer is it that special holiday, just like any other package holiday. Booked our next cruise with Celebrity – lets see what these are like.
