Iona isn’t for us, but is a lovely ship
Shelagh Levett | November 22, 2021 | P&O Cruises | Iona
Despite reading some very negative comments about embarkation, ours was fast and efficient. Being a new ship Iona is still in pristine condition and despite being large it still manages to give an air of spaciousness. For regular P&O cruises, Iona is a departure from their older ships – it is very geared towards younger people and families and there were many children on board. There is a good range of eateries on board, both included and extra charge, something for everyone, but I found the buffet very poor – especially for salads. Lots of entertainment venues, some small and intimate (needing to queue but well worth it), others large and loud. The Skydome is spectacular and the acrobatic shows are not to be missed.
Try going on the second day (they repeat the performance for 2 days) as it is usually quieter. The Headliners shows are also repeated 2 days in a row to ensure everyone can attend. Shows in the theatre have to be booked via the on board app, but you can phone or see a helper who can also book if like me you don’t have a smartphone. Disappointed with the daytime entertainment, but plenty for families. Dining is all freedom and again you can use the app to book. We just turned up each evening and never had to queue, but we like to eat late. Our aft suite was wonderful with huge balcony. But others were complaining about the small size of cabins and no drawer space just open shelving. Whilst we liked the ship, it is too big and too family oriented for us, but I’m sure many with love it.
