Canaries Cruise 4th June 2022
Margaret Salmman | June 26, 2022 | P&O Cruises | Ventura
Total chaos at the cruise terminal to start with! The cabin was clean but I didn’t feel that it had the deepest clean. The attendant came just once a day and did the basics, it just wasn’t the same though nothing was deducted from the price although the services were less. The balcony and furniture were quite dirty. Chairs and stools badly stained and the partitions also quite dirty.
Generally, the standard had dropped from our previous cruise with P&O though a cruise a few weeks ago on a Celebrity Ship was spot on, no changes due to Covid. This excuse is wearing thin now. The attendants were used to clean other areas of the ship during the evenings. Obviously staffing issues was the reason! No face cloths in the cabin this time, basics I would say and after a discussion, I had those. We had the same cabin when we travelled to the Caribbean on this ship and everything was perfect, every day. Canapés were delivered everyday too but not this time. They were a lovely touch and much appreciated
Three days prior to disembarkation in Southampton we were informed that there were a number of cases of The sickness and diarrhoea bug. At this point staff began serving in the cafeteria rather than allowing guests to help themselves. This ought to have been done from the start. Covid was on board even from day one which is baffling considering every guest was meant to show a negative test. In fact, a number of people I gather left the ship suffering from this and once I was one of them! I had it too despite all the precautions I personally did.
The booking of theatre shows was pointless really because numbers didn’t seem to be restricted. Just a bit of a hassle. You can’t rely on people to cancel if they change their minds which sometimes meant that the app would say that the show was full to capacity when actually, it wasn’t.
Disembarkation was a shambles but that might not have been the fault of P&O.
I sincerely hope that they will get back to their usually high standards.
If we had read some of the reviews earlier in the year, we might have postponed this holiday to give them time to get back to what we feel is the expected standard of travellers today. We had enjoyed the ports of call and so this holiday was not a total disappointment but hygiene should never be compromised and removing items or service that was the norm should not happen.
