Canaries on Ventura December 2017
P Moore | December 21, 2017 | P&O Cruises | Ventura
Ventura was fairly dirty throughout the trip, hygiene standards very low and I had to ask to have things cleaned. Baggage handlers broke the arms off my wheelchair which meant I couldn’t go ashore until they mended it (which I had to chase for several days). The shower was placed too high and the hose not long enough, water kept coming out the toilet, there was a high pitched whistling sound coming out of the air vent and the cabin was constantly creaking, canapes and fruit were dreadful and we threw them away, 50% of the crew didn’t speak English and were under-trained, tannoy went off at 4am in the cabin waking everyone up and none of us could get back to sleep. The were six or seven medical emergencies (most of which were on our deck) on the Thursday before arriving in Southampton my daughter got me a meal from the buffet which gave me food poisoning – so I was confined to my cabin for two days. Medical staff wouldn’t have it and insisted it was norovirus but I hadn’t touched anything apart from my fork and a napkin. This was my first time on Ventura and I can’t believe how low the general standards were. I have been on Azura and Britannia so I have something to compare it with. Also, some of the staff were very sourly and clearly were not enjoying working on her.
It urgently needs much better hygiene, much better trained staff, complete re-think of the canapes etc. Better maintenance. In fact just about everything needs to up the standards.
I suggest they sack all room service staff and get people who know what they are doing. There were either no cups, no forks, food and coffee was cold, drinks spilled all over the tray, no tomato juice available and an hour to wait until it arrived and even then we had to chase it up. In the end we just didn’t bother with it any more.
Some of the reception staff weren’t very helpful but Head of Reception and Head of Housekeeping both called Chi and our cabin steward were very helpful and pleasant.
We weren’t given a Cruise Log like we had been given on Azura and Britannia.
Also, the weather was very cold which didn’t help.
