Canaries, Portugal and Spain cruise
Ernest Parkin | December 5, 2022 | P&O Cruises | Ventura
Overall we were disappointed. It’s not the P and O service we have had in the past that we are used to. The destination ports were good and we enjoyed some P and O excursions. The food was mediocre and sometimes lukewarm and the service was generally very slow. We didn’t like the new app where everything had to be booked. Generally people had booked the theatre beforehand so it was fully booked most nights although many did not go and take their seats but no one could take them. Freedom dining has lost it meaning too. You have to book to go in for freedom dining which takes away any spontaneity so why have freedom dining. The cabins and room service were as usual excellent. The buffet service was ok, with limited choice of food. The price of wine was dramatically higher than before. Entertainment was a bit lack lustre but the speakers delivering talks were very interesting and varied. Unfortunately the comedians were dire! One spent most of his act making fun of women through jokes about the menopause. Not what I wanted to hear! There was not enough seating areas inside either. The weather wasn’t great and finding empty seats was difficult. The only place that had seats was in the glasshouse. That was because it was freezing cold and you had to wear a coat to sit there comfortably. The bar service wasn’t great either. Lots of waiting to get any service. The disembarkation in Southampton was not as slick as usual either. It was so disorganised, everyone was stressed out when usually it’s so efficient. Unfortunately we didn’t have a great time and regretfully we are seriously thinking of not travelling with P and O again. We have travelled a lot with P and O and we accept that there will be changes But the app was the turning point.
