P&O cruise to Guernsey and Portugal
Colin Wood | July 23, 2022 | P&O Cruises | Ventura
Having enjoyed numerous P&O cruises over the last 25 years I am sorry to say that I have just returned from possibly the last P&O cruise I will ever take. My first cruise with P&O was in July 1998 on Oriana to Norway and Iceland and and it was truly memorable not only for the destinations but also for the experience onboard. The ship was in very good condition, the bar and restaurant staff were attentive and determined to give you the best service possible. Silver service in the main restaurant with a good and varied choice of quality food being served by really friendly staff. Plenty of things to do during the daytime whether staying onboard or going ashore and good choice of entertainment in various venues in the evening. Decent sized cabin which was cleaned and tidied daily with a turn down service at night with a chocolate left on the pillow. All passengers were made to feel special no matter what their standing or background. However all this seems to have changed.
On Ventura in July 2022 the service at times in some of the bars and restaurants was quite poor with quality and choice of food not at the high standard it once was. In my opinion the daytime activities were not particularly inspiring and some of the evening entertainment was only average and at times quite amateurish. Dress codes were not always observed and sometimes not challenged by the staff. Taking a P&O cruise was once a special event to look forward to and provide good memories but all that seems to have gone. On this evidence it is more like a cheap seaside holiday afloat. I implore P&O to look very closely at their reviews and return as quickly as possible to the high standards they once held otherwise they are in danger of ending up at the bottom of the pile.
