The worlds most expensive cruise ship
John Mortimer | March 2, 2023 | Regent Seven Seas Cruises | Seven Seas Splendor
This was our second visit on Regent’s Seven Seas Splendor. Overall it lived up to its hype with a few exceptions. We have sailed frequently on all other Regent ships.
We were in the Caribbean.
For the first time since Covid, the muster drill was reintroduced with attendance at the muster stations obligatory.
The suite cleaning team were exemplary as usual and almost invisible.
Compass Rose, the main restaurant, has in the past in our opinion delivered food to a quality that made visiting the speciality restaurants not so special.
However this time we found the food to be generally overcooked and dry and cannot say we had a great meal on the occasions we dined there. We did bring this to the attention of the Maitre’D who put it down to staffing issues. My view is that it was down to the Executive Chef who should have been monitoring the output.
The speciality restaurants, Prime 7, Chartreuse and Pacific Rim were excellent.
Sete Mare was not so good with a veal dish served almost raw which had to be sent back. We dined there twice and things were fine on the second occasion.
The entertainment was mixed with the production cast shows good to excellent but there was a very poor magician and a particularly poor (American) comedian doing a couple of shows each. Unfortunately British and American humour don’t mix !
The service on board was superb as we would expect as was the bar entertainment.
The included tours were poor but to be fair there is not much to see in the Caribbean compared to Europe etc. We cancelled a couple and abandoned another after three attempts to visit a gift shop ( not advertised) which was closed.
Nothing to do with Regent but Miami airport immigration and emigration are the worst we have experienced anywhere. Hours of queuing both ways.
Overall though it was good ( and expensive!)
