Disappointed!!

My husband and I and daughter and grand-daughter (9)sailed out of Southampton on 21st July for 14 days for my husband’s 60th birthday. We have sailed with RC on three other occasions and were very pleased. This time disappointed. Our balcony on this particular ship was almost enclosed and very small (we had a junior suite each). Cabin itself all right but bed very hard so for 14 days I slept on a spare duvet, very hot but more comfortable than mattress. We had booked to eat “my time” only used it twice which was an horrendous experience. Very rushed and tables and chairs on top of each other. I kept being asked to move so waiter could get by as the “man” I will not call him a “gent” refused to slide a bit forward!! Food was very non to say the least.
On a positive note the buffet food was good but got boring to do for 14 days. We had a meal in Portofino on the birthday night which was excellent, and they made a concession for the nine year old to be present as I had booked prior to boarding and was unaware under 13’s not permitted. We had a great night. We found generally that the ship is very expensive and charging for everything. My daughter went for massage (an offer) $99 or $120 with hot stones. At the end of it she was charged $140.42 which she questioned and was told she had to pay it. Had she missed the small print”” Not a bargain at the end of the day. We also bought some “inch of gold” jewellery $135 and on day of return 2 stones fell out!! We now have to send the item back (at our expense to the US) and wait 7 weeks for refund to be processed as they cannot deliver a replacement.! A lesson learned to NOT buy items of jewellery on board as if problem not easy to resolve. ! What happened to customer care I wonder. The ship was packed as it was school hols so would not travel at that time again. The shows were abysmal, saw one and an Abba tribute everything to dumb down and save money for the shipper!! Would think again whether to travel with R Caibbean again.
