Disappointed with Anthem
Peter Spill | January 26, 2014 | Royal Caribbean International | Anthem of the Seas
We are regular cruisers now being Diamond Plus, but didn’t like the dining arrangements. First of we were informed that there would no formal night and no Captain’s reception. However on a couple of occassions the daily planner gave as the dress code “Best clothes” to which I assume means Dinner Suits. I did bring mine with me, so there was no problem. Also as we chose Classic dining whicgh means that we rotate between four different restaurants with the same table number and waiting staff. However one of these restaurants was the Grande which required Dinner Suits and a lot of guests didn’t bring these. It was offputting seeing some guests who were dining in the Grande in dinner suits and the rest in casual clothes
The four restaurants included Asian, American, Grande and Chic and the menus were not to our liking and were never changed
The untertainment was OK with “We Will Rock You” as the best show although songs were great being Queen but the story line was a bit naff. But in a 16 day cruise there should have been more productions shows featuring the RCI singers and dancers.
There wasn’t an ice cream parlour like Ben & Jerrys which are on other RCI ships. Jonny Rockets was a disappointment as it was more like a Macdonalds take-a-way as opposed to a restaurant as it is on others ships and you were served and the staff did a little jig and 50’s music was played all the time.
The Windjammer food was excellent and provided snacks and sandwhiches as well hot food.
The shops on board were selling cheap rubbish or designer clothes which were very upmarket.
I still don’t see why with all their buying power RCI can’t persuade some of the towns that were visited to provide free transfers into town with a captive audience of 4,000 would have thought it would have been to the towns advantage.
The Wi-Fi was very fast but at $59.95 for 3 days was a bit expensive as I can’t see guests spending 72 hours constantly on their tablets/smart phones.
