This was a holiday booked at this particular time to get out of London for 2 weeks while the Olympics were on and to take our son and daughter in law on holiday. She had never cruised before.
Procedure to get onboard was slow hot and busy, but due to the fact that the ship was full and it was August, its not surprising. Once on board, we had a great day, cases brought quickly, our balcony stateroom was a good size with enough storage.
We had a problem with our seating as the four of us were separated at dinner but this was sorted out after another day. Ship is very large, but we found that ok and the exercise was great for working off the calories. Food overall very good and entertainment and staff were of a high standard. Cruise Director Joff was brilliant. There was full capacity on ship with over 1400 children and although we realised that this would be case, and this ship is much more geared to families, it didnt affect us too much. More adult sunbathing areas would be good, and sunbed situation on top decks not great, bit of a bunfight sometimes.
Biggest downside for us was the huge increase in prices from our last RCI cruise. Everything was exhorbitantly expensive, from average drinks $6 to a photograph $20 to $25! Ouch. Our son and his wife were very aware of this as their account rose steeply every day! It seems like the cruise companies entice us in with a pretty reasonable package to cruise then hit the punter very hard once on board. Just be aware of this.
We all had a great 2 weeks all in all, enjoyed all the stops (but did our own excursions) and would use RCI ships again but not this one.
Be prepared to manage your expectations.
