Indonesian Adventure

We spent 14 days on the Star Clipper undertaking back to back cruising, this is unusual as most passengers take just one week aboard the ship. Changeover day is a strange and wasted day, we took the opportunity to go ashore to Kuta and take advantage of free WIFI. This means that Star Clippers can repeat the menu week in week out, which is rather tedious if you are there for 2 weeks. the first week we had a very noisy cabin with a watertight door situated outside of the cabin re pressurising its self every 30 minutes and the drainage system balancing continually leading to poor/no sleep the first week. They moved us the 2nd week. Be aware that the East bound sailing is mainly beaches apart from visiting Komodo Island to see the Dragons (which is amazing) and the West bound sailing is more cultural and you need to take the ships excursions particularly to Mount Bromo (we didn’t and missed out on a great experience but at 165 euro per person it is expensive.)
The Food for breakfast and lunch is terrific, but the evening meal needs significant improvement.
It became evident the 2nd week that the owners were due to join the ship the following week, and the amount of maintenance undertaken during the voyage was intrusive and the fumes cause headaches amongst the passengers.
Having said all of this regarding the hotel/maintenance side of the ship this is not the reason you travel with Star Clippers, it is first and foremost a sailing ship and as such takes advantage of the winds and will heel and rock as the conditions dictate. It is a privilege to be aboard such a sailing ship. Enjoy it.
