Done this cruise a couple of times now, the starting port of Vancouver is worth more than an overnight stay.
All down the west coast you get to stop most days at wonderful locations, all very accessible from the cruise ship, you can simply step off the boat and walk into iconic landmarks like San Francisco or take a bus to the shops.
The highlight for us was Carmel, a short bus ride from Monterey.It all ends in San Diego where you can get a direct flight home or drive back to Lax, the train is also a scenic alternative back to La.
THe only down side is that while celebrity are an excellent cruise line and the price for this trip is very competitive they do tend to use their older ships for this route.
Also it is wise to shop around for flights and you may find it much cheaper if you are prepared to fly back from Lax.Unfortunately as for many holidays to the USA ,heathrow for anyone above the m25 is a pain, it is time we had more choice of Atlantic flights from the north.
