We had decided that as we are both now retired that our cruising days were probably over due to being on fixed incomes, however Bolsover came through with a late deal that seemed too good to miss, so we booked for the Eclipse to the Norwegian Fjords for the end of August.
Embarkation was so slick that we were on board and in our cabin with half an hour of parking the car! Luggage arrived soon afterwards, so first impressions were great.
The rest of the trip did not disappoint.
We were so impressed with the ship itself from the design, which is very modern, to the cleanliness and overall condition.
We had been a bit concerned that it would be too big, as it is the biggest ship we have ever been on, but being on select dining we met up with different people at every meal and that was great, and by the end of the eight days we were nodding to all sort of people.
The food was great, not quite on a par with the Queens Grill on Cunard, but certainly of a very good standard, we were particularly impressed with the buffet which we do not usually use but found it excellent for the odd lunches and occasional breakfast,.
We felt that the staff were the best we had ever encountered on a cruise ship bar none.
They were friendly without being too familiar, unfailingly polite and could not do enough for us.
The entertainment was the best we have ever experienced, Sue Denning the cruise director was marvellous and we thoroughly enjoyed everything she organised.
Of course the itinery was great, the scenery spectacular, and the excursion to Flam, although expensive definitely worth doing.
The only criticism I would have is that the drinks are very expensive, we don’t drink a lot so it was not worth buying the drinks package for us.
Disembarkation was fantastic, we were asked to be ready for 8.20 am and were actually at our car, with luggage by 8.10 am no hassle no problem.
So – the conclusion, maybe our cruising days are not over, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would not hesitate to travel with Celebrity again.
