Queen Mary 2 is a genuine liner, not a cruise ship, hence a great way to cross the pond.
Having done the same trip on QE2 we were used to the journey and we have not changed our minds, it’s THE way to come home from New York.
The history panels around the ship were excellent, a real education in Cunard and trans-atlantic travel, the entertainment , like all ships these days was a bit bland and we never saw the cruise director, in the old days he/she and the rest of the cruise staff would wander around the ship being jolly with everyone! But we made some charming new friends, something you can’t do on a plane! Food was excellent and it was worth paying extra for the Princess class cabin – on the first two days we sat on our balcony and enjoyed the sun – then we hit a force 10 – great – just how the Atlantic should treat travellers!! The only real down-side is at the start of the journey – getting to the pier in Brooklyn, took forever to get there from mid-town Manhattan, bring back the old pier at the end of 42nd street – much more user friendly and much more “New York”.
