This is our third time on RMS QM2.
Instead of the fly cruise deals we have had in the past we were offered a very generous deal from Bolsover Cruise Club from Southampton to Brooklyn and back to Souhampton.
It beats the tiring jet journey and inconvenience of airports these days.
QM2 will be 10 years old next year and I feel she is showing her age a little.
We had cabin 4142 midships with sheltered balcony.
Excellent accomodation, shower that worked well and didn’t flood the room! Plenty of storage space for clothes.
Bed was so comfortable I didn’t want to get out.
Steward on hand all the time and very helpful.
We managed to get early sitting for the first time which meant that we could choose entertainment in the evening after dinner.Entertainment was first class.
An excellent comedian named Jon Courtney and a classical pianist in the afternoon..
Warren Mailey-Smith.
For this entertainment you may have had to pay the price of the whole cruise in London venues.
I have to mention that as the only trans-atlantic liner in operation she is truly a sea worthly vessel.
For anyone dubious about crossing the Atlantic, fear not she rides well.
We had a day of force 8 gale, it made absolutely no difference to her stability.
I mentionepreviously that we had travelled before on decks 8 and 5.
I had not experienced vibration in these cabins but at times on dect 4 especially during the night it was felt considerably.
Food: First reaction too much.
We were always eating! You could even go for midnight supper!!!!! Overall I felt that the quality of the food may have suffered from our previous trips, the steaks in particular which used to be so mouth watering.
Otherwise the menu was very comprehensive for all tastes and diats.
Oh and if you like wine with you dinner beware of the winelist.
Prices are out of the roof to me as a UK person.
perhaps not to USA people.
Many people when you say you cross the Atlantic say did you get off anywhere ?????????????? Can you believe it.
We had a day in NYC and booked a trip out to Orange County.
Absolutely fabulous motor trip.
For anyone able to afford a trip on QM2 take it it is magnificent.
It may be the last chance to have an ocean liner crossing. For those interested she touched 25knts leaving UK but her speed dropped to about 20knts most of the time.
It now takes 7 days across, unlike the original Queens of 4 and a half days regular service.
25knots may be her maximum speed on diesels.
Her maximum would need her 2 jet engines.
Neither would equal the 2 older Queens nor the fastest QE2 in either steam or diesel.
Hopefully some one will be interested in continuing the trans atlantic crossing with another true liner.
