Our first sea cruise, taken as a means of getting to South America, was every bit as good as the recommendations we had received.

All the food was very good quality, well-served in both restaurants, Britannia and Lido.

Our cabin on Deck 6 was very comfortable.

We were particularly surprised by the breadth and quality of music provided around the ship, daytime and evening, and relaxed to either the String Quartet or the cocktail pianist in the Commodore lounge in the evenings.

These performances fitted in nicely either side of the shows we chose to got to, a few of which we thought very good.

The Programme of activities was broad, and lectures very interesting.

Of those, we very much enjoyed listening to Lord Robert Winston and Dr.

Margaret Cox.

The Port presentations lacked sparkle and first-hand experience, and we had hoped for more expert analysis and description of the countries we were visiting.

The exception to this grumble was Dr Mike Gibson talking about the Perrons.

The onshore visits arranged by Cunard were expensive for what they offered, but, as it was our first time of cruising, we had booked a few through the Company.

The most disappointing of these was from Puerto Madryn to Peninsula Valdes – a very long day’s drive for 3 short viewings of penguins and seals, with a low quality packed lunch and mediocre guide.

Don’t do it! The close-up spectacles of Cape Horn and the 2 Chilean glaciers were very good, and had been one of the main reasons for taking the cruise.

We shall be cruising again!
