This was a fairly last minute booking and we always go Aurea experience for anytime dining and spa access. We’re both gold voyagers club members and had to chase up our “gold benefits” on board. There was only Aurea suite aft cabin available when we booked and it being called a suite we expected a bit of division between bed and living area. What it is in fact is slightly larger than a standard balcony cabin with a recessed area for 2 bunks and a bath with shower over. Somehow, you can fit 6 in this cabin, but there’s not enough space. There is no division between the sofa bed and bed, and again…where are 6 supposed to sit? The bathroom is not much bigger than normal and I’m not sure where towels are supposed to hang! The balcony was a bit bigger, but they did seem did get smaller the higher deck you were on.
The cabin stewards do their absolute best but now have more cabins to attend to so cleaning between guests is less thorough, and during the week, visits were also much quicker, and later than we’ve had before.
Food was, as always, plentiful in the buffet, and main dining rooms. Any time dining with Aurea for us helps massively.
Shows were good and because of group booking for Steve Steinman shows, the carousel shows were made free.
No information provided at all by the captain regarding sea day conditions (this has always happened before).
Good that the muster drill has improved since our last cruise nearly 18 months ago when it involved everyone clambering to get their cards registered at the same time. Now, it’s get card registered at your correct muster station and then watch the video – which can be done on the app or in cabin. This registers you as having completed the process.
The ship was full but didn’t seem too crowded apart from lunchtime on sea days.
All in all, good trip but it’s possible to see where MSC are cost cutting, which I’m sure applies to every cruise line.
