Had a lovely trip on Iona to the Norwegian Ffords recently. Nothing much to fault…… great ship, staff friendly and helpful and plenty of food. The entertainment was good too….. especially Dean Richardson as Freddie Mercury …… great voice and funny too.
Went on a few trips….. on a troll car to see the glacier, a trip to the lighthouse and a drive around Stavanger. Wish we’d not bothered with the last one. It amounted to a coach driver taking us around all the residential and commercial/ iindustrial areas of the town. Nothing much interesting to see and the courier whilst very knowledgeable I’m sure, could bore for Norway. She talked ‘at us’ for the whole trip. Didn’t even draw breath. Nothing really that hasn’t been said on the other excursions and the only saving grace was a waffle and coffee in a hotel….. although the hotel did look like a repurposed fish canning factory. Would have been better just wandering around the dock area in Stavanger.
Would i go to Norway again…..yes, it’s beautiful. Would I go on Iona….no, too big and busy. As the weather was cold most people were inside the ship which meant waiting for available chairs and tables in the bars and cafes and queuing for the buffet, Horizons. Good trip but a rethink for next time.
