It was very exciting to go on our first cruise. The highlight for us was the very smartly dressed staff in the restaurants, they were courteous and helpful and served us very well. They were always smiling and you could tell it was genuine and that they wanted to be there. The ship was beautiful, so smart and well designed. In particular, the colour schemes and interior design was really well thought out and looked great. In particular, we liked the Anderson bar library, as most of the time it was relaxing and quiet. There was lots of activities, with something for everybody. However, we just enjoyed people watching, meeting and chatting to some lovely people and relaxing on our own balcony enjoying the scenery. Not everything was good, our large hard suitcase arrived at our cabin with its combination lock ripped clean off, this we reported immediately to our room steward, but he didn’t show much interest, other than to tell us that it was not him that damaged the case! At the end of our week, when we needed to leave the ship, we struggled to get from our cabin deck 12 to deck 6, as many passengers chose to fill the lifts with their many cases. We left our cases outside our room the night before, which we thought was such a good idea, as it saved a great deal of effort on our part, especially as my wife has mobility and breathing issues. We think P&O should insist all cases are left outside cabins and this would free-up space in the lifts, so everyone can vacate the ship quickly and efficiently. We were not entirely sure why we were asked to leave at deck 6 level, as the very lengthy walk from this high level down to dock side was extremely difficult for my wife. A big positive for this trip was using the Intercruises coach travel connection. We felt this was brilliant and took all the effort and stress out of travelling from the midlands down to Southampton and back. It also had the bonus of fast-tracking us on arrival at the ship. We didn’t need to queue as we were given a coloured card to show and we were waved pretty much straight through. On the whole, we really enjoyed the cruise and was mostly a very positive experience.
