Crown Princess mediterranean May 2013
Tony Hillman | August 6, 2013 | Princess Cruises | Crown Princess
Recently completed the cruise on the crown princess 11 May – 24 May 2013.This was only my second cruise after doing one last year to the same area with Royal Caribbean. Overall the holiday was good, although not as good as Royal Caribbean Independence of the seas last year which I would give 5*. Weather wasn’t great lots of rain, I definately wouldn’t go at that time of year again. The ship wasnt great, the main atrium was far too small and became massively overcrowded when the weather was bad or any sort of event was happening. It was a nice place to sit and have coffee if you could get a seat which was difficult, there was only about 50 seats max to be had, for a ship of 3000 passengers you can see the problem. The decor of the ship seemed to be getting a bit tired and very dark although it was kept clean and tidy. Stability of the ship seemed very poor compared the independence of the seas which hardly moved about at all even in very bad weather, unlike the crown princess which was like a cross channel ferry a lot of the time. Cabin staff were nice and did a good job as were the dining staff. The Food was very good with a good variety and good quality. We did quite a few excursions which were all quite good, the only down side was continuous queues to re-board the ship with the crew stood around talking and no urgency to get people back on board, one was heard to comment well the problem is all the tour buses arrive back at the same time!! Well Hello!! Its not like its a new phenomena !! Slow and inefficient reboarding was a constant problem, the last thing you want after a long day out on an excursion. Myself and my partner are in our early fifties but have quite a young outlook on life, I think the average age of the passengers on this cruise was late sixties, which although we didnt have a big problem with that, it was far from our ideal, we didnt find too many our own age in fact we felt a bit like the youngsters of the crew for a change. It was however a bit like a floating care home at times. Overall the cruise was average and probably didnt live up to my expectations although in fairness the weather didn’t help. The itinerary wasn’t ideal with a lot of ports one day after another then a longer period at sea. Overall I expected more from princess and was a bit disappointed, another couple on our dinner table who were veterans of 38 cruises, 12 with princess, commented it was probably one of the worst they had been on! although I didn’t think it was that bad there is definately room for improvement. Would I give princess a second chance and sail with them again, I am not sure. I would definately need to try a few other cruise lines first.
