Fjord Cruise 22-29 July

The ports of call were excellent. The tours in Olden and the 8 hour coach tour to Gerainger were the best tours we have ever experienced (not inexpensive but we didnt feel we’d been greatly overcharged). The downside to the cruise was the number of staff. The main dining room staff were good but were so stretched. Waiting staff has been cut to the minimum. In the Horizon and Caribe buffet areas there is not sufficient seating – we got over this by having breakfast in the cabin. The use of trays in the buffet restaurants has been stopped and guests are just handed one plate which is a pain. Main restaurant food was ok. One of our table companions complained (unnecessarily in my view) but it has to be said. We received hotter and larger portions from them on. We had a mini suite which was fine and large, however the bathroom was very tired and in need of a refit. Excellent cabin steward. Reception staff very helpful. Staff levels need revisiting – cutbacks have gone a step too far. We are taking a Royal Princess cruise in October and it will be interesting to see how that compares as it is a newer ship.
