South America on Grand Princess
Keith Abrey | December 3, 2014 | Princess Cruises | Grand Princess
We joined Grand Princess at Buenos Aries and cruised for 30+ days to San Francisco joining the larger group of passengers who had boarded at Fort Lauderdale.
Ship carried a total of 2500 passengers, almost a thousand from US and a thousand from Australia plus a mixture of other countries and a hundred or so from UK.
Despite the larger number of passengers there were no problems apart from getting on and off the ship by tender…..one problem in particuar where the Argentinians did not let the ship dock as had been pre-arranged and only let us have one tender dock which caused major delays in getting back on the ship……passengers queuing for between 2 and 3 hours to get on a tender..and it rained…otherwise the management of accessing tenders from the ship was well handled.
Dissapointed that we were unable to get to the Falklands….weather was turning very windy as we headed towards the islands and it was obvious that we would not have been able to operate the tenders in the sea swell. Most people were very dissapointed but nothing could be done. Captain did however take us on a compete circumnavigation of the island of Cape Horn which was very interesting and the sea was as flat as a pancake. In fact apart from the South Atlantic and also Nicaragua the sea was very calm and we felt no movement in the ship at all
Ship was delightful……..very similar to P & O Azura in layout..virtually identical. Crew were excellent…always smiling and helpful and we certainly had no cause to worry about the service.
Food was good……this being a repositioning cruise..effectively three cruises linked together…. there was a repetition of some of the evening shows and the menu was repeated as it was based a two week cycle….but sufficient variety for most people.
We would definitley travel on Grand Princess again and would have no hesitation in recommending the ship to other cruisers
