Around the UK…on an American Ship
Southwinds | August 13, 2018 | Princess Cruises | Royal Princess
Having cruised with Princess before and liking their relaxed style we jumped when we saw a deal on around the UK cruise on Royal Princess. If your curious about the ship, look on YouTube…which is what we did.
We booked an inside cabin as it was a very port intensive cruise. Visited: Guernsey, Cobh for Cork, Dublin, Liverpool, Greenock for Glasgow, Invergordon, South Queensferry for Edinburgh and Le Harve. Well, it was exhausting but excellent, we crammed lots in and walked lots, with only two sea days to recover. The democratic of the ship was mostly Canadians…then Americans, Australians and Japanese. Brits were in a minority but we met some lovely well travelled people.
Don’t come on Princess to dress up, smart casual to us was more like casual, but after a long day sightseeing, it was nice to relax.
In Liverpool we had a Beatles tribute band join us for entertainment. In Ireland and Scotland, local folklore dancers came on and performed an early evening show.
Royal Princess is a large ship which doesn’t feel it, lots of deck space all with chairs out ready to sit on. One pool is an adults only area. There’s the “movies under the stars” screen, popcorn too, and comfy seats at night with a warm blanket that is a feature too.
The buffet was amazing so much choice. Most of the food was being prepared at its serving area which meant it was far fresher than often is the case when it wheeled up from the galley then sits under a hot lamp. There is even a separate Pastry Shop for dessert, cookies and coffee can be purchased here too. Princess International Cafe in the Plazza (atrium) was as always excellent.
Princess uses this area for ballroom dancing, bands and other entertainment. It really is the hub of the ship.
There is an ice cream parlour, a wine bar called Vines, seafood restaurant and champagne bar as well. All in the main atrium area.
Silk the new production show, was west end quality! Get there early seats fill quickly it’s an amazing show.
Entertainment is varied. Bingo, quizzes, “Princess Live ” a room like a TV studio that is used for TV style quiz shows and talks, Crooners bar had an Irish girl singer and an excellent pianist. Both names I forget. The evenings were warm and light and the deck bars were open . The Terrace bar, aft was a lovely evening venue too.
No kettles in the cabin but room service is swift.
Pizzas on Princess are also brilliant and freshly made too.
Only negative is the exchange rate makes things appear more expensive on board than they once were.
Would we go again….yes we would.
