Good but expensive on board

This is our second trip to the Baltic as we did this cruise last year on Crown Princess. We wanted to return to Russia as we loved it last year so much.
After a lot of research, we decided to arrange our own tour in St Petersburg independent of the ship due to cost and SPB tours who we used for the tour also arrange the visas in Russia. This is the second year we used them and was so much cheaper than the ships with more palaces and venues on the agenda.
Regarding Sapphire Princess, it was a lovely mid range ship and although the decor is a little dated we really did enjoy it. The food was yet again very good with a good selection and Anytime Dining is a real bonus. The weather on this trip was fantastic too so we could use the top deck and pool area, although Sapphire Princess also has a covered pool if the weather is inclement. We had a balcony room which was spacious and accommodated my husband and 20-year-old daughter well. I felt that the daily programme on sea days was more suited to an older clientele and my daughter also got bored as there was little in the form of entertainment for her or those in her age group. We also found that the ships theatre production team didn’t provide half as many shows as other cruise lines we’ve been on and were on perhaps 4 or 5 times at the most over the two week period. We found that the ship was still very expensive for drinks and wine (not that we drink very much) and feel that if they continue with these prices, then people may look elsewhere, ie; P & O who were so much cheaper on beverages and also goods in their shops when we sailed with them two years ago. I would like to see a move to All Inclusive cruise ships as would many people we spoke to. All in all, we had a good holiday and although I would consider Princess again I would look at a company who offers a little more for everyone in their programme.
