Most enjoyable cruise

We sailed with Cunard Line on board Queen Victoria.
13 nights to the Canary Islands in April started well with a very easy and quick embarkation with pleasant greetings from all staff we encountered as we got on. Our cabin was also ready and our bags arrived very soon after we did. We used the Baggage Handling Company this cruise for the first time so were a bit apprehensive about our bags turning up but they did and so we need not have worried. We were very lucky in that we had a table by the window in the Princess Grill restaurant and it was from here we saw most of our Dolphins and Whales. The food and service in this restaurant were first class the entire cruise. Our two wait staff were brilliant and the rest of the staff in this restaurant all chipped in from time to time to ensure we were always attended to. Eating and Drinking on a cruise is what we enjoy most so this made for a great start point for an enjoyable cruise. Once we got down to the Canaries the weather was warm if a little overcast most of the time. Sun here and there though so we still got a tan. We have been there many times so just walked around the ports on our own. Everyone ashore was friendly and we saw no sign of any kind of demonstration against tourists so that was pleasing also.
We, of course, had a great Cabin Steward, not sure a bad one exists on any cruise line to be honest. Our room was not quite as special as the Princess Grill suites on Queen Mary 2, being of a similar shape and layout as say, a deluxe balcony cabin on P&O Aurora. The QM2 cabin was of a more square design and just seemed a bit more luxurious. That said it was adequate enough and perfectly clean. The ship is being refitted soon and she needs it in a few area’s. She is 19 years old and a bit of wear and tear is only to be expected. This was our 20th cruise and this ship was the emptiest one we have ever been on. Don’t know if it was not sold out but there just seemed to be space everywhere, loads of Sunbeds available even on sunny sea days and the promenade was almost empty at what would normally be busy times. Never known a ship like it and that made for a very relaxing cruise for us. When we got off we came down the stairs expecting to join a queue only to turn right at the bottom of the stairs and walk straight off the ship. Fantastic. Anyhoo, to sum up, for us and the way we like to cruise this was one of our best. Certainly 5 out of 5 easily.
