This was our first time with Princess Cruises.
Sky Princess was the largest cruise ship we have ever cruised on.
We were, therfore, a little apprehensive.
I need not have been so.
The check in and boarding was very quick and efficient.
Our cabin was a little smaller than we are used to (for a balcony cabin), but that was our fault for not booking a de luxe model.
The cabin was fine though.
We both liked the open wardrobe facility in the cabin making it easy to see your clothes and decide what to wear, rather than peeing in to dark depths of a wardrobe.
We did not like the lights linked to motion sensors that came on in the cabin when activated at night.
Soon resolved by taping over the sensors.
The ship was easy to navigate despite it’s size.
Both inside and outside was sparkly clean and quite impressive, and pretty efficient.
The food was very good, both in quality and choice.
The choices from the Lido was impressive.
Entertainment was of a high standard, particularly the house singers and dancers.
Some of the guest artist were a bit weak but overall we enjoyed the entertainment on offer.
There was two venues available on most evenings.
There was a full casino on board, of no interest to us, but a few people made contributions to the Carnival fund that way.
The outside deck space was a bit limited for the number of passengers, but then we are more used to the traditional open decks with a wrap around promenade deck.
We thought the open air cynama was a complete waste of space.
On the odd glimpse of programmes showing revealed either football or American disaster movies, neither of any interest to us.
There was a distinct shortage of comfortable lounges available during the day for when the weather was not so good.
There was a shortage of outdoor games, only one was golf putting.
This mysteriously repeated during some of the crew v passenger events.
We thought Princess was missing an opportunity as the attendance at the one event was always high.
The bars were a bit odd, they were all formed from corridors, that made them noisy and again difficult to find somewhere to have a chat.
Take 5 (a jazz bar) was bad, as passengers constantly passed through spoiling the performances.
The one BIG omission in our view was NO wrap around crows nest, available on many cruise companies ships and clearly lacking on Sky Princess.
The drinks prices were a little high.
The drinks package available to us was a staggering £3200 for the duration of the cruise.
We are not in favour of drinks packages anyway as it encourages more drinking and pushes prices in the bars higher.
Who wants to drink 15 alcoholic drinks a day any way.
Overall we enjoyed the cruise and if the right combination of destination and time frame coincided we would travel with them again.
