We returned on 1st June after a really enjoyable cruise, lovely ports, good weather, nice & varied food and the usual high standard of service from the staff in spite of the long delay embarking because of the deep cleaning of the ship.
We were very conscious of the cases of Nora virus on the previous cruise and so were particularly careful including taking anti bacterial wipes and hand sanitisers so we could give our cabin an extra clean stop this is not what one would expect to have to do to go on what is called a luxury holiday.
However, in spite of continuous hand washing sanitising et cetera both myself and my daughter became really ill during the last night.
We were in adjacent cabins, my daughter travelling with her husband and son, I was particularly worried how I was going to manage to a get off the ship and to travel home.
Unbeknown to me my daughter had been vomiting all night and was particularly ill, but she managed to get me out of my bed help me to get dressed and of the ship as I was too ill to manage.
I was told that I was delirious and can’t much remember of the journey home.
I slept for some 18 hours then started with severe diarrhoea, high temperature, stomach cramps and a very very dry mouth.
My daughter went straight to bed and looked very ill and her skin was yellow.
On the Sunday both my son in law and grandson (12) started being ill with similar symptoms.
The family missed work and school for 3 days.
After 7 days we are finally starting to feel better but it’s been extremely difficult.
I’m 83 years old and have cruised over 45 times always with P&O and this is the experience of nightmares which I don’t ever want to repeat.
I’ve always recommended P&O but having seen the way the line is going I’m afraid my loyalty has been stretched to the limit.
I’m seriously concerned that this virus is still prevalent on Ventura despite what looks like a cover-up from P&O.
We should be able to go on holiday full of excitement etc not worrying about catching some nasty debilitating illness.
Sort it out P&O, get back to your standards you were renowned for.
