How Long Does It Take to Refurbish a Cruise Ship?
A common question for cruisers is how long it takes to refurbish a cruise ship, and Bolette provides a helpful real-world example.
Bolette’s refurbishment took place over 16 days, during which time specialist teams carried out scheduled maintenance, technical inspections and a wide range of guest-facing upgrades. Dry dock periods of this length allow cruise lines to complete intensive work efficiently while the ship is out of service, often resulting in noticeable improvements once the vessel returns to sea.
Guest Space Improvements on Board Bolette
The dry dock programme included a series of interior refurbishments across key guest areas, designed to enhance comfort, presentation and atmosphere.
Refreshed Lounges and Social Spaces
Several of Bolette’s public areas have been refreshed, including The Observatory and The Ocean Bar, with updated finishes that help maintain a bright, relaxed and contemporary feel. These spaces play a central role in life on board, and the updates ensure they remain inviting places to socialise and unwind.
Dining Areas and Restaurants
The main dining room has benefitted from new carpeting, while guest corridors and stairwells throughout the ship have been revitalised, improving both appearance and flow.
Bolette’s speciality restaurant, Colours & Tastes, has undergone a complete interior transformation as part of a wider fleet refresh. The redesigned space now features refined textures and warm, neutral tones that showcase the restaurant’s curated artwork collection, creating a more intimate and elevated dining environment.
From 2026, guests can also look forward to a new rotating menu concept in Colours & Tastes, inspired by global cuisines including Grill, Italian and Asian flavours, offering greater variety throughout the cruise.
Guest Cabins
As part of the refurbishment, more than 50 guest cabin bathrooms were renovated, improving comfort and functionality while maintaining the familiar cabin layouts guests enjoy.
Enhanced Entertainment After Bolette’s Refit
Enhancements have also been made to the Neptune Lounge to support Fred. Olsen’s new entertainment partnership with RWS Global. Upgrades include the installation of a new LED wall and aerial performance structures, allowing for higher production values and a more immersive evening entertainment programme.
Guests sailing on Bolette from June 2026 can expect to see brand-new theatre productions, adding further variety to the onboard experience.
Fred. Olsen Bolette Capacity and Onboard Atmosphere
For those wondering about Fred. Olsen Bolette’s capacity, the ship carries around 1,300 guests, which plays a key role in her relaxed, uncrowded feel. This mid-sized capacity allows guest spaces to be used comfortably and supports the sense of community that Fred. Olsen cruises are known for.
The recent refurbishment ensures these spaces continue to feel well maintained and enjoyable, even during busy periods.
