HX Expeditions has revealed its new 2028/29 season, with new voyages to Antarctica and South Georgia, West Greenland, Alaska and Scandinavia.
Read MoreHX Expeditions has revealed the first details of its 2028/29 season, with a collection of new itineraries taking guests from Antarctica and South Georgia to West Greenland, Alaska and Scandinavia.
The new programme covers departures between April 2028 and March 2029, building on HX’s long-standing focus on expedition travel with new ways to explore some of the world’s most remote regions.
Among the highlights are a 19-day Antarctica and South Georgia expedition aboard hybrid-powered MS Roald Amundsen, a new eight-day West Greenland itinerary and voyages through Alaska’s Inside Passage. Scandinavia also features prominently, alongside a collection of repositioning cruises.
Antarctica and South Georgia Aboard MS Roald Amundsen
One of the headline additions for 2028/29 combines Antarctica with South Georgia on a 19-day expedition aboard MS Roald Amundsen.
The itinerary brings together two of the Southern Hemisphere’s most remarkable expedition destinations, offering the opportunity to experience Antarctica’s immense landscapes alongside South Georgia, an island renowned for its extraordinary wildlife.
MS Roald Amundsen is one of HX’s hybrid-powered expedition ships and has been purpose-built for exploring remote regions, with an onboard Science Centre and Expedition Team forming an important part of the experience.
A New West Greenland Expedition
Greenland will also feature in the new programme, with an eight-day West Greenland expedition sailing between Nuuk and Disko Bay.
The itinerary offers a more concentrated exploration of Greenland’s west coast, taking guests north from the country’s capital towards a region characterised by enormous icebergs, remote communities and dramatic Arctic scenery.
HX has also confirmed that direct flights from London will be included across its 2028/29 West Greenland expeditions, making the region more straightforward to reach for UK travellers.
New Alaska Inside Passage Voyages
Alaska is another destination receiving new itineraries for the 2028/29 season. HX will introduce an eight-day expedition through Alaska’s Inside Passage, available in both northbound and southbound directions.
The shorter itinerary provides a new way to experience this famous stretch of coastline through an expedition lens, with the region’s mountains, forests and wildlife providing the backdrop for the journey.
Scandinavia Joins the New Programme
Closer to home, HX is adding two new Scandinavian itineraries. A 10-day Southern Scandinavia expedition will be available in both northbound and southbound directions, while a longer 13-day itinerary will explore the Gulf of Bothnia, the northern arm of the Baltic Sea between Sweden and Finland.
Both itineraries will also operate in either direction, giving guests greater choice when planning a wider trip around their expedition.
New Ocean Crossings
HX’s ships need to travel between their expedition regions throughout the year, and the 2028/29 programme will include nine repositioning voyages.
These ocean crossings offer a different kind of HX experience, providing longer stretches of time at sea as ships move between destinations and seasons. HX has confirmed that the nine sailings will be offered without a solo supplement, which could make them particularly interesting for guests travelling alone.
HX Celebrates 130 Years of Expedition Travel
The new season comes as HX marks its 130th anniversary in 2026, tracing its origins back to 1896. While the destinations and ships have evolved considerably since then, exploration remains at the heart of the experience. Today’s HX expeditions combine journeys into remote regions with expert-led activities and opportunities to learn more about the landscapes, wildlife and communities encountered along the way.
With new itineraries spanning both polar regions and destinations much closer to home, the 2028/29 programme gives travellers even more ways to experience expedition cruising.
