Legend of the Seas Review: Our First Look at Royal Caribbean’s Newest Icon-Class Ship
Read our Legend of the Seas review after an exclusive preview sailing on board Royal Caribbean’s newest ship.
Read MoreWhen Royal Caribbean launches a new ship, expectations are always sky high. As the third ship in the groundbreaking Icon Class, Legend of the Seas has plenty to live up to.
Several members of the Bolsover Cruise Club team were invited on board for an exclusive preview sailing before she welcomed her first guests. That gave us the chance to explore every corner, sample the dining, experience the entertainment and discover what makes Royal Caribbean’s newest ship so special.
Here are the moments, spaces and surprises that stood out most.
It feels like eight holidays in one
One thing became clear almost immediately: Legend of the Seas is huge, but she never feels overwhelming.
Before stepping on board, we expected a ship of this scale to feel busy. Instead, one of the biggest surprises was just how easy it is to find your own space.
The secret lies in the ship’s eight distinct neighbourhoods. Each has its own atmosphere, restaurants, entertainment and personality, making every part of the ship feel like a destination in its own right. Wander from the lush greenery of Central Park to the lively Royal Promenade, unwind in the spectacular AquaDome or spend time in the family-friendly Surfside neighbourhood, and every area offers something completely different.
Whether you’re looking for a quiet corner to enjoy a coffee, somewhere to lose yourself in a good book or a lively venue filled with music and entertainment, there’s always a space that suits your mood. The thoughtful layout naturally spreads guests throughout the ship, meaning it rarely feels crowded despite its size.
Rather than moving around one enormous cruise ship, it genuinely feels as though you’re experiencing several holidays in one. It’s one of the cleverest examples of ship design we’ve experienced and a big reason why Legend of the Seas feels so easy to explore.
Built with families (and everyone else) in mind
Legend of the Seas really comes into her own for multi-generational holidays.
Children have dedicated spaces where they can play safely, while adults have their own areas to unwind in peace. It’s a balance that allows grandparents, parents and children to holiday together without feeling like they’re all competing for the same spaces.
What really stood out were the smaller details. Even the splash park includes a dedicated drying-off area before little ones head back indoors – the sort of practical touch you might never think about until you’re using it.
The same careful planning extends to the dining. Wherever you are on the ship, there’s always somewhere nearby to grab a drink, snack or meal without having to walk across multiple decks.

Entertainment raises the bar once again
Royal Caribbean has built a reputation for world-class entertainment, and Legend of the Seas continues that tradition.
The Royal Theater is genuinely spectacular. The staging, scenery, technology and performances combine to create productions that wouldn’t look out of place in London’s West End. It’s easy to forget that shows of this quality are included in your cruise fare.
The Music Hall was another unexpected highlight. Live bands and themed evenings create a brilliant atmosphere, but thanks to the venue’s mezzanine level you can simply sit back with a drink and enjoy the music without feeling obliged to get up and dance. It’s a small design feature that makes the venue feel welcoming to everyone.
Of course, the entertainment isn’t confined to theatres and live music. Like every Icon Class ship, Legend of the Seas is packed with activities for guests of all ages. We couldn’t resist trying both the FlowRider surf simulator and the rock climbing wall at Adrenaline Peak. Safe to say there were a few nerves beforehand, but the instructors were incredibly patient and encouraging. By the end of our session, we were all balancing on our knees with our arms outstretched – something none of us expected when we first stepped onto the board. If you’re feeling adventurous, both activities are easy to reserve through the Royal Caribbean app, making it simple to plan your day.
Category 6 is every bit as thrilling as it looks
If you’ve seen photos of Legend of the Seas, chances are you’ve already spotted Category 6 – the largest waterpark at sea.
We couldn’t leave without trying the slides for ourselves, and they were every bit as exciting as we’d hoped. As you race through enclosed sections, synchronised lighting effects and music transform the experience into something that feels more like a theme park attraction than a waterslide.

Central Park remains one of Royal Caribbean’s greatest creations
If we had to choose one place to escape, it would be Central Park.
Filled with thousands of real plants, winding pathways and comfortable seating, it’s remarkably easy to forget you’re sailing in the middle of the ocean. Gentle birdsong drifts through the space, creating an atmosphere that’s calm, relaxing and unlike anywhere else on the ship.
Whether you’re enjoying a morning coffee or taking an evening stroll before dinner, it’s the sort of place you’ll find yourself returning to again and again.
Dinner served with one of the best views at sea
The Main Dining Room deserves a special mention.
Elegant, spacious and flooded with natural light, it’s the kind of venue that reminds you why dining at sea is so special. Large windows frame the ocean beautifully, making sunset dinners feel even more memorable as the horizon changes colour around you.
Royal Promenade: The heart of the ship
At the centre of everything is the Royal Promenade, which feels like the bustling heart of an all-inclusive resort. With Starbucks, shops, casual dining, pizza, bars and entertainment all surrounding you, there’s always something happening, whether you’re grabbing a coffee, enjoying a late-night snack or simply watching the world go by.
Our first impressions
Before stepping on board, we expected Legend of the Seas to impress because of its size. Instead, we came away talking about how cleverly it had been designed.
From the eight distinct neighbourhoods and thoughtfully planned family spaces to peaceful retreats like Central Park and spectacular entertainment, every part of the ship has clearly been designed with guests in mind.
Perhaps that’s what impressed us most. Legend of the Seas doesn’t feel like one enormous cruise ship, but rather a collection of unique experiences, all brought together in one unforgettable holiday.
If this exclusive preview is anything to go by, Royal Caribbean has done it again. Legend of the Seas is a destination in its own right, and we can’t wait to return.
