Norwegian Aura: What to Expect from the New NCL Ship
Discover more about the new NCL ship Norwegian Aura, including what to expect and where it will sail.
Read MoreNorwegian Cruise Line has released details on Norwegian Aura, the third ship in its Prima Class and one of the most anticipated new cruise ships scheduled to launch in 2027. Building on the success of Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva, Norwegian Aura has been designed to offer more space, more light and more outdoor living than ever before.
Rather than simply being bigger, Norwegian Aura focuses on how guests actually use the ship – where they relax, dine, socialise and take in the views. For travellers considering a new-build cruise, Aura represents the next evolution of Norwegian Cruise Line’s modern, guest-first design approach.
Norwegian Aura: Key Facts
Norwegian Aura is a Prima Class cruise ship, designed to feel more like a high-end resort than a traditional cruise liner. At approximately 156,000 gross tonnes, she will be the largest ship in the Prima Class, while still maintaining a more intimate feel than NCL’s biggest vessels.
The Prima Class was created to address common guest feedback around crowding, flow and access to outdoor space. Norwegian Aura continues this philosophy, offering wider decks, more open areas and layouts that feel calmer and easier to navigate.
Designed Around Space, Light and the Ocean
One of Norwegian Aura’s defining features is her focus on openness and connection to the sea. Large expanses of glass, floor-to-ceiling windows and open-air venues are central to the ship’s design.
For guests, this means more places to sit and relax with unobstructed ocean views,a nd public areas that feel bright and airy rather than enclosed. There are also plenty of outdoor dining and lounge spaces that make the most of warm-weather itineraries
This design approach is particularly appealing to travellers who enjoy spending time outdoors and want their cruise to feel less enclosed than older ship designs.

The Onboard Experience
From a guest perspective, Norwegian Aura is all about choice and flexibility.
Dining will follow Norwegian Cruise Line’s Freestyle Cruising concept, with a wide range of complimentary venues alongside speciality restaurants offering global cuisines. The emphasis is on dining when and where you want, rather than fixed schedules.
Entertainment spaces are being designed to feel more immersive and comfortable, with venues that adapt from daytime relaxation to evening shows. Bars and lounges are spread across the ship to avoid crowding and give guests plenty of options depending on mood and time of day.
For those who prefer quieter moments, Norwegian Aura will also feature dedicated retreat areas and relaxed social spaces, ensuring the ship works just as well for laid-back cruising as it does for lively evenings.
Cabins and Accommodation
While full cabin details will continue to be released closer to launch, Norwegian Aura will offer a range of accommodation designed around comfort and usability.
Guests can expect:
- Contemporary cabin designs with practical storage
- A strong emphasis on balcony staterooms
- Options suited to couples, families and groups
As with other Prima Class ships, accommodation is designed to feel modern and uncluttered, making cabins more enjoyable for longer stays on board.
Where Will Norwegian Aura Sail?
Norwegian Aura is scheduled to debut in Europe in late May 2027, before beginning her first full season in the Caribbean.
From June 2027, Norwegian Aura will homeport in Miami, operating seven-day Caribbean cruises designed to showcase the ship’s outdoor-focused design and warm-weather appeal.
Each Caribbean sailing will include a call at one of Norwegian Cruise Line’s private or resort-style destinations:
- Great Stirrup Cay, NCL’s private island in the Bahamas, which has recently been enhanced with new guest facilities
- Harvest Caye, NCL’s resort-style destination in Belize
These itineraries combine classic Caribbean ports with exclusive island experiences, giving guests access to beaches, activities and facilities reserved for Norwegian Cruise Line passengers.
With her initial European debut followed by a Miami homeport and week-long Caribbean sailings, Norwegian Aura’s deployment reflects Norwegian Cruise Line’s focus on pairing new-build ships with destinations that allow guests to make the most of outdoor space, sea views and resort-style cruising.
