Viking Fjolvar takes her name from a figure in Norse mythology, believed to be a jötunn, or supernatural giant, who appears in the Poetic Edda. This mythological inspiration gives the ship a fitting connection to Viking’s Scandinavian heritage and storytelling tradition.
Launching in 2026, Viking Fjolvar will join the Viking River Cruises fleet with a focus on Seine river itineraries. Carrying just 168 guests with a crew of 46, this 410-foot river ship will offer an intimate and destination-focused experience, complemented by Viking’s signature Scandinavian interior design and relaxed onboard atmosphere.

The Viking Fjölvar ship is designed for cruising the Seine, docking in central Paris within walking distance of the Eiffel Tower. Its name comes from Fjölvar, a jötunn in Norse mythology who trained and fought with Odin on the island of Algrœn, as told in the Hárbarðsljóð from the Poetic Edda.
