Every island nation has a distinct culture and energy, offering a spectrum of destinations with unique activities and experiences. At Bolsover Cruise Club, we could spend forever talking about the many amazing ports to be found on a cruise around the Caribbean, but we’re instead going to dedicate this guide to three of our favourites!
Grenada
Introducing Grenada
Welcome to Grenada, one of the western hemisphere’s smallest independent nations and one of the Caribbean’s top cruise destinations! It is the southernmost island in the Lesser Antilles, known worldwide for its nutmeg production, second only to Indonesia.
The island is home to some of the Caribbean’s most sensational landscapes, ranging from rainforests to quaint mountain lakes, and its blend of European, African, and American influences creates a rich cultural identity, characterised by strong traditions such as the Grenadian Carnival and calypso music.

What to Do in Grenada
Arriving in Grenada, guests will find its main island and two smaller neighbours, Carriacou and Petite Martinique, to be hubs of activity and opportunity. Those looking for an afternoon of relaxation and cocktail drinking will be right at home in Morne Rouge Beach, perfect for families thanks to its gentle waves and pristine white sand, while nature lovers will appreciate the total immersion of Grand Etang National Park’s dense greenery.
Hiking trails throughout Grenada range from the leisurely strolls of Morne La Baye to arduous treks to the summit of Mount Qua Qua, meaning everyone can find their ideal walk. If it’s aquatic fun you’re craving, Grenada’s surrounding waters are a world all their own, thanks to sites like the Underwater Sculpture Park at Molinière Bay, where coral has encrusted a series of concrete sculptures to create a hauntingly beautiful dive site.

St. Kitts
Introducing St. Kitts
The larger of the two islands that form St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Kitts is a mountainous gem, with volcanic sands and vivid rainforests that create landscapes unlike any other in the Caribbean. Home to Mount Liamuiga, the highest point of this Lesser Antilles island, St. Kitts has one of the longest written histories of the Caribbean, making it a historically significant stop for any cruise.
African culture and mythology play a significant role in life on St. Kitts, particularly in the annual Carnival celebration. Whether it’s Moko-Jumbies dancing on eight-foot stilts or the colourful costumes of St. Kitts Clowns, there’s a wonderful energy and light to this island that guests won’t be able to resist.

What to Do in St. Kitts
Whether you follow the crowds or go out in search of hidden experiences, St. Kitts doesn’t disappoint. If you’re looking for an experience that’s certain to impress, the Scenic Railway has been one of the island’s top attractions since 1912. Back then, the narrow-gauge railway line was used to transport sugar cane to the outskirts of Basseterre, but now it takes guests on a three-hour trip around the island, offering unrivalled photography opportunities.
St Kitts is gorgeous from any angle, but there’s something to be said about how wonderful it looks from the open sea. When you step ashore, it’s tough to resist the temptation to join one of the many catamaran cruise operators and gaze across the coastline’s sensational geography with a rum in hand.
Many of these boat trips also include tours of island highlights, such as the Fairview Great House and Botanical Garden. There’s also plenty of opportunity to dive into the crystal waters yourself with snorkelling classes and beach barbecues to welcome you back on dry land.
Aruba
Introducing Aruba
Located near the coast of Venezuela, Aruba is a pearl of the Caribbean with its turquoise waters and dreamy beaches. Its capital, Oranjestad, intrigues with its influences of Dutch and Caribbean cultures, and the island’s location outside of regular hurricane pathways makes it a haven for wildlife and vegetation.
Language, music and food each play their part in Aruba’s culture, with festivities like the patriotic Betico Day and the Mexican holiday of Dera Gai contributing to a packed calendar of fun. From so many cultural influences, Aruba forges a truly unique national identity, making it a Caribbean cruise essential.

What to Do in Aruba
Whether you’re solo travelling or holidaying with friends, Aruba’s miles of sweeping sandy vistas and its colourful capital, Oranjestad, offer plenty of ways to relax and unwind. For those looking to get active, hiking or horseback riding through rugged scenery and wildlife reserves is ideal, and the Aruba Ostrich Farm makes for a fun detour, where ostriches, emus, ducks, geese, peacocks, chickens, and turtles can be hand-fed.
Another excursion that’ll tug on your heartstrings is the Aruba Donkey Sanctuary. This non-profit reserve in the Santa Cruz neighbourhood feeds and shelters about 40 donkeys, taking in those that have found themselves abandoned or injured.
Like Grenada, Aruba has a sunken world of treasures to explore. Perhaps the jewel in this underwater crown is the Antilla Wreck, the largest shipwreck dive in the Caribbean. This 400-foot-long 1939 German freighter came to rest just 60 feet below the surface, and it’s close enough to the shore for guests to snorkel to. While you’re below the surface, keep a lookout for turtles, barracuda and manta rays too!
