After you’ve booked the cruise of your dreams, the last thing you want to worry about is how you are going to get to and from your port of departure. At Bolsover Cruise Club, we have the expertise and guidance to help you get to your port without stress, whether you’re cruising from the UK or jetting overseas.

Public Transport: Coaches and Trains

Today, guests can choose from a range of cruises from the UK with the best cruise lines. These cruises mean guests can access their departure port easier than ever, and with a range of cruise ports located all over the country – including Southampton, Liverpool, Newcastle, and London – utilising public transport is a popular method for getting to their departure port.

For guests looking to board a coach, many cruise lines offer a dedicated coach service, including P&O Cruises, Cunard, Celebrity Cruises, and Royal Caribbean. This service takes care of everything, from guest pick-up and luggage management to taking your bags to your stateroom. Independent coach companies are also a good option, offering a wide range of pick-up points across the country for a stress-free journey to the port.

Many UK cruise ports are also well connected by rail. Portsmouth and Belfast, for example, are both served by excellent train links, with stations being just a short taxi ride from their ports.

Do You Have to Pay For Coaches?

If you book your coach travel through your cruise line, this may be included as part of your base cruise fare. We recommend checking this before your departure to avoid an unexpected fee. If booking through an independent coach company, guests must confirm this price with the relevant company.

Driving and Parking

Driving to your departure port is another way to get to your UK departure port. Many ports are accessible via main motorways, but guests are strongly advised to plan for parking.

There are several parking services available for passengers who wish to drive to their departure port. At Southampton, for example, cruise lines such as P&O Cruises and Princess Cruises use Cruise & Passenger Services (CPS) to include valet parking and luggage handling services as part of guests’ bookings. Similarly, cruise lines including Fred. Olsen Cruises and MSC Cruises use AB Parking to provide these services.

Cruisers who aren’t offered parking services as part of their booking are advised to book well in advance to ensure they have a space on departure day.

How Much Is Parking at Southampton Port?

The price of parking at the Southampton port can vary depending on the duration of your cruise and the car park you choose. For an 8-day stay, guests can expect to pay between £60 and £85 for parking. We recommend booking as early as possible for guests to secure the best rates and proximity to the port.

Fly Cruises: Flying to Your Departure Port

Getting to your port of departure can be slightly more complicated with fly cruises, but there are plenty of options to make it simpler. By packaging flights with their wider cruise offerings, cruise lines can offer a broader range of itineraries for guests to enjoy, with cruises departing from almost anywhere in the world.

When booking a fly-cruise, you will have the option of including flights in your cruise package or choosing to arrange your own. If booking a cruise-only deal, you will be responsible for arranging your own flights, transfers, and transport to/from the airport. Bolsover Cruise Club can assist with these arrangements, but all bookings are the responsibility of the traveller.

If your booking includes a flight package, your flights and transfers to/from the ship will usually be included, though some cruise lines may charge a supplement for transfers. Our Cruise Experts can confirm what is included at the time of your booking with us.

Some cruise lines, such as P&O Cruises, use charter flights for their Mediterranean and Caribbean fly cruises, meaning your luggage will be taken directly from the plane to the ship, removing your need to wait at the luggage carousels.

Fly-cruise packages may also include free airport parking, making them great value for money. Where not included in your fly-cruise package, Bolsover Cruise Club can offer advice and book hotel and airport parking across the UK.
